History of Garland

During the year 1874, two colonies emerged around Peter’s colony called Embree and Duck Creek. As residents started settling in, the two towns started having disputes over Santa Fe Railroad Depot. To solve the problem regarding the location of the post office, Judge Thomas Nash decided to situate it in between the two towns, which would be called Garland. In 1891, the three areas of Duck Creek, Embree and Garland were combined and by the year 1904, the area had a population of about 819 people and was known as Garland City.

After the devastating 1927 tornado, businesses began to move back to the city in 1930. Craddock Food Company, Byer Rolnick Hat Factory, KRLD and Kraft Foods Company started purchasing land over here. By the onset of 21st century, the city of Garland added various developments including a water park, conference facilities, educational amenities and much more.
